PPFA provides an in-depth analysis tool for Bet Selector users that saves them invaluable time when assessing form. As most form students are aware, several manual adjustments need to be made to update the data to take into consideration wet tracks, jockeys, past form, distance, barrier position and track capability for each runner. After many years of manually making these adjustments, a fully automated program has now been completed that will reduce many hours of analysis down to minutes with uncanny accuracy. No more errors because of "time constraints, tiredness and change in track conditions during the meeting". The PPFA program has many features that are set with default values. These can be adjusted by you with full flexibility to any criteria that suits your needs. You will find the program an invaluable analysis tool when assessing runners' chances in a race.

PPFA is the brain child of Steven Angelides and Nick Vlachou who after more than 20 years of research came to understand the strength of form analysis and the need for this to be done in a methodical and non emotional manner. Out of this came PPFA with its systematic approach to Form Analysis resulting in a remarkable improvement in the overall success of his investments. Of particular note is the inclusion of automated procedures for "Par Times" and Field Strengths. By applying Track Specific "Par Times" to each track, track condition and distance, users have the ability to compare runs from one venue to another with all the runners being ranked based on their ability to run "TIME". The automation of the Field Strength rankings removes the time consuming effort required to monitor and apply a uniform bonus to all applicable runners when looking for runners that are better placed today in comparison to their previous run based on class of race and weight to be carried. The addition of the Race Times Analysis Browser allows users to view the relevant data on one screen with the Rated Prices, Field Strengths, Times Filters all displayed thus allowing for a complete overview of the race.

PPFA was originally built to automatically do the manual analysis that has always been possible in Bet Selector. Over the past couple of years it has evolved to have many more features that work within PPFA to give a BETTER RATED ORDER and FABULOUS FORM ANALYSIS TOOLS. If you use Bet Selector to analyse form and/or run systems, PPFA will cut time and improve performance, particularly in the following areas:

  • Bet Selector does not take full account of track conditions. If you run a meeting for good, dead, slow and heavy tracks, your rated order will basically be the same top 6 horses with some small variances and a compressed market. With PPFA, all runners form is assessed and appropriate bonuses are applied to horses that handle the track condition of today’s race, you will find that in most cases you will run ratings for the four different track conditions and will have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RATINGS FOR EACH ONE, a runner that was 40/1 8th rated on a GOOD track and not proficient on heavy tracks may well be 9/2 2nd rated on a heavy track, In Bet Selector, it will still be 8th rated.

  • Bet Selector does not adjust weights for allowances. If a runner is allocated 58kg and has a 3kg apprentice allowance, the weight displayed and used for any system tests is 58.0, not its true and correct weight of 55.0, therefore any systems being run that use a weight factor will be incorrect. Bet Selector also rates all jockeys as a 5.0 and we all know that all jockeys are not equal. Using PPFA, all jockeys are rated and this is automatically applied to each runner, all weights are adjusted and displayed with their correct weight after claim.

  • Bet Selector does not take into account in-running when creating past ratings. Within PPFA there is a “black book” function which is not a Black Book in the traditional sense where we keep a list of horses to follow in the future. Rather it is designed to more accurately portray the horses "real past form rating" and also allow for things that are not taken into account when this past form is assessed (blocks, checks, caught wide etc etc). For example, when the past run CIS rating is created in Bet Selector it takes into account beaten margins, if the margin is 6L then this is reflected in the rating created, however if this runners was blocked and never got a run, then the 6L is a fallacy and the rating created is not right and therefore the overall ratings for the race are incorrect. This is where the BB comes into play; the value awarded to it for this inconvenience is added to the base rating therefore giving us a more accurate assessment of the run and this has a direct bearing on the ratings order.

  • In Bet Selector horses resuming form spells are allocated the peak rating for their 1st up run with minor adjustments. This is why Bet Selector rates many 1st up runners high up in the order, using the PK run from a previous preparation will in many cases not give an accurate assessment of this runners chances, many times you will have this runner in the top 2-3 in Bet Selector and a close look at its form shows that 1st up its 6 times for no placing yet its 2nd rated?? In PPFA, all runners are assessed for 1st up ability and are penalised for not having had a run and then are “given back” some of this based on their ability to perform fresh. PPFA also applies bonuses for runners having 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th runs in preparation based on previous performance at corresponding runs in previous preparations. PPFA IS COMPLETE FORM ANALYSIS not just creating a base rating based on last 3 runs and cross your fingers and hope.

These are just the very basic form analysis functions within PPFA that are not dealt with in Bet Selector. Others as mentioned earlier include the use of field strengths and track specific par times. Then there's track specific barrier bonus/penalties, trainer changes and jockey changes (from a poor rider to better, vice versa, claiming to non claiming, there are several variations that are colour coded for easy identification). Bet Selector plus PPFA becomes the complete form analysis package and if you are using systems or system analyser, it’s pointless running these systems etc if you are running on the incorrect rated order. PPFA will allow you to get a far more accurate rated position order, based on all the form analysis factors and how you set your parameters.
